Jake Quickened has recounted how he was punched by the ghost of his younger brother who passed away after battling bone cancer.

The 31-year-old reality star was left devastated in 2012 when his brother, Oliver, died aged just 19-years-old following his illness.

Former X Factor star says he was desperate to retain a connection with his sibling following his death – and was shocked when he received a “sign” one year after his death.

Speaking candidly to the Daily Star, Jake explained that he had a “weird” experience which he attributed to the spirit of his brother trying to annoy him.

He said: “One day something hit me so hard in the ribs that it actually took my breath away. That’s something my brother would do. He’d punch me.

“I thought, ‘It must be him’. Before he died, he always said that if he could come back and annoy me then he would do it.”

Jake went on to explain how he found the thought of his brother as comforting as opposed to being something to be afraid of.

He said: “I like to think the way he looks as a ghost isn’t the way he looked when he was poorly. He’s back to himself. Thinking of it this way helps me a little bit.”

Jake’s father, Paul, also passed away after battling a form of bone cancer in 2008.

The singer has opened up about his loss previously and explained how he was hit with depression and turned to alcohol to cope.

He said: “They were just very, very unlucky. I struggled a lot, especially as [Oliver] was my little brother – he was 19 – and because I should be looking after him.

“I went into a downward spiral. I’m not talking about it because I want pity but I decided to talk about it to let people know you can come out of it and be alright.

“I did nothing, I laid on my mum’s sofa, not working or making money, and I was just going out and getting so drunk I couldn’t remember the night before.

“I’d lay in bed all day and be depressed. I didn’t want to burden my mum as she had just lost a son. I couldn’t talk to my mates, because everybody loses someone.
