Harry Redknapp unveils ‘long term dream’ of starring in EastEnders after jungle stint

The football hero expressed his undying urge to head to the iconic Square, admitting that he’s got a plan of how it will happen

Harry Redknapp says he kicked off I’m A Celebrity a “miserable git” and left as King of the Jungle after relearning silky smiley skills.

The football hero admitted 34 years in management had taken its toll before he went on the show in 2018.

Speaking to his old camp-mate Fleur East, 32, on her The Reality of Reality TV podcast, Harry, 73, said: “When I went in there with you guys, we had a laugh and it was fun.

“It took me back to being a player again, when I used to love a laugh and a joke.”

Harry began his management career with Bournemouth in 1983 and ended it with Birmingham City in 2017.

He said: “I used to come home on a Saturday night, after a bad defeat, and I couldn’t talk.

“You don’t realise how low you’re getting. Scary, scary low.”

He would even tell wife Sandra, who he wed in 1967, not to make plans for Saturday nights because if his team lost he would “be no use to anybody”.

But he said all that had changed since his stint on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity and his retirement from football.

He said: “I have found myself enjoying myself much more and laughing, being happier. Though Sandra won’t agree.”

He now has his eye on the ultimate TV prize: “I really want a part in EastEnders.”

He added: “That is my long-term dream. I wanna be in the pub. And I can see it now. I’ve got it planned.

“They’re at the bar, they’re going, ‘Here, I hear Redknapp’s moved back into the Square, hasn’t he? Yeah, well, he’s gone skint or something? He lived down in Sandbanks. He must have done his dough.’ And suddenly I’m in the pub. ‘Hello Harry, just talking about you, mate, yeah.’ And there I am, in EastEnders.”
