Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs spills secret decades-long love affair with drugs

Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs declared he had a decades-long love affair with drugs.

He rocketed to fame on the Harry Potter franchise films as the evil Lucius Malfoy.

All these years later, the actor, 57, confessed he had battled with a secret drug addiction for a long time.

Jason lifted the lid on his addictive personality, which left him susceptible to experimenting with drugs at a young age.

He told The Big Issue : “I’ve always had an addictive personality and by the age of 16 I’d already passed through drink and was started on a decades-long love affair with drugs.”

In his darkest of thoughts before he got clean, the producer thought if everyone he knew died it would be an excuse for him to take drugs by himself.

Jason’s struggle with substance abuse left him convinced no one else fitted the “same twisted, dark, cracked mould” he felt he did.

Later he begun to realise this was far from the truth.

He added: “I was convinced that nobody came from the same twisted, dark, cracked mould as I did.

“I remember there being a moment, not long before I got clean, when it suddenly occurred to me that if everybody I knew died, literally every single person, I probably wouldn’t mind that much. In fact, I might like it because then it would be an excuse to sit in a room by myself and take drugs. I know now that’s not true and never was.”

Jason was spurred on to forge a successful career in acting across TV and film roles.

His best known roles include Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, Colonel William Tavington in The Patriot and Captain Hook in Peter Pan.

In the romance department, he’s married to actress Emma Hewitt.

They have two daughters Lily, 18, and Ruby, 15, together.
