Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that working with shamed mogul Harvey Weinstein “took the shine off” acting for her.

Calling the former Miramax president a “really rough boss”, she explained she was only in her mid-twenties when she realised she didn’t “love acting that much as it turns out.”

At the time Gwyneth, who is among multiple women to accuse Weinstein of sexual harassment, had just won a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Shakespeare In Love.

“I sort of felt like, well, now who am I supposed to be?” she said in a new interview on SiriusXM. “What am I driving towards?”

Gwyneth said part of the problem was the “intense public scrutiny” of stardom.

“Being a kid who’s living every breakup on every headline, like being criticised for everything you do say and wear,” she explained. “And also, it’s so transitory, you’re always all over. It’s hard to plant roots.

“I’m such a homebody, you know me, I like to be with my old friends and cook and squeeze my kids. I don’t want to be alone in a hotel room in Budapest for six weeks. It’s just not who I am.”

Added to this, was her working relationship with Weinstein, who she also worked with on her 1996 breakout film Emma.

“If you compound those things with the fact that like, you know, to be totally candid, I had a really rough boss for most of my movie career at Miramax.

“So you take all those things [and] you’re like, ‘I don’t know if this is really my calling.'”

Now 45, Los Angeles-based Gwyneth has mostly shelved her career as an actress to launch a hugely successful, unashamedly luxe lifestyle brand, Goop.
