Friends star Courteney Cox completely unrecognisable after dramatic hair transformation
Friends star Courtney Cox has given fans a look at her new hairstyle on Instagram as she posed with Scream villain Ghostface as they prepared to shoot the fifth film in the sequel
Courtney Cox has paid tribute to her Scream 3 character with an iconic haircut.
The 56-year-old Friends actress was seen on set of the eagerly-anticipated horror sequel when she revealed the freakishly short fringe inspired by her news reporter character Gale Weathers.
On Halloween Courteney shared a picture of her new do with her 10.1 million followers on Instagram with a post which was captioned: “Not the bangs!!!!!!!!”
Above her shoulder in the background of the picture was Scream villain Ghostface, who was seen holding a pair of scissors up to her hair instead of his usual knife.
Since being posted, fans have complimented the throwback hair do.
Among them was Queer Eye star Tan France, who commented: “NO WAY!! I was so tempted to be Gail Weathers with the bangs before I settled on Moira Rose!! I might be having regrets!”
Many other fans referenced a scene in Friends where Monica Gellar got a haircut which went horribly wrong, causing her to shout out: “I said Demi Moore not Dudley Moore.”
One person joked: “Did you let Phoebe cut your hair again.”
But this isn’t the first time Courteney has paid tribute to her Scream hair, as she shared a video of herself cutting in the fringe – wearing a wig – last Halloween.
Earlier this year, Courteney’s co-star and ex-husband David Arquette admitted he was responsible for the fringe, which he claims was supposed to be inspired by 1950’s pin-up Bettie Page.
The actor who plays Dewey Riley told Entertainment Tonight: “The bangs were my fault. I have to admit, I was like, ‘Oh, you should do a like, Bettie Page thing, you know, just like, a little. That was my fault.
“Totally, I’ll take full responsibility. I mean they’re, you know, a professional hairdresser’s fault of course. And they didn’t really do Bettie Page kind of really blunt bangs. Like, that’s what the idea was. They tried to mess with them. You can’t. You have to go fully in. You can’t, like, halfway those kinds of things.”
Shooting for Scream 5 is set to begin later this month.
Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette will be returning to our screens alongside new cast members Jack Quaid, YOU star Jenny Ortega, and 13 Reasons Why star Dylan Minnette.
Variety reports that filming will take place on the fifth instalment of the franchise at a studio in Wilmington, in North Carolina, USA.
The new Scream has a release date of January 14, 2022.
