Staff on Ellen DeGeneres’ TV show are reportedly delighted that the ‘toxic’ atmosphere behind the scenes has been exposed.
Those working on The Ellen DeGeneres Show are thought to be supporting each other as they feel happy that their “toxic work environment” has been made public.
They are also pleased that it has created a feeling that people can come forward with their own thoughts on what they have experienced while working on the show.
Us Weekly has reported that a show source connected to the production has said: “They’ve been calling and texting each other about the story.
“They’re loving that the truth — which has been an open secret for years in the industry — is finally receiving more interest.”
The 62-year-old talk show host has been hit by a number of claims that staff have felt ‘intimidated’ working on her show.
Ten former employees of the show have spoken out to BuzzFeed and described how they faced racism, fear and intimidation while working on the series, which has picked up a number of Emmys over the years.
The former show staff members were joined by a current employee in dishing the dirt on the show and said that Ellen has employees sign nondisclosure agreements when they begin working with her.
One insider said: “You can’t say anything, even nice things, even if you get fired, even years after you’ve left.”
Executive producers Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner have hit back at the claims in a joint statement, in which that said they “have strived to create an open, safe and inclusive work environment” during the 16 years of the show.
They added: “We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience.”
It’s claimed the TV host has found it hard to come to terms with because she initially thought it was just sour grapes from a handful of people.
However, the rumours that she was mean have been snowballing as more people have come forward to tell their story.
“Ellen is at the end of her rope,” a source told US Weekly “She thought this was all just sour grapes from a few haters. But it’s not a passing thing — the hits just keep coming.”
Throughout the scandal, Ellen has been reaching out to her wife Portia for support.
They have been holed up together at their £22 million mansion during isolation which Ellen likened to being in jail.
“Ellen’s so grateful to have Portia in her life as a soulmate and a sounding board, but that doesn’t mean it’s been easy,” a second source told US Weekly.
