Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s mansion ransacked while they were inside

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have been forced to beef up the security of the mansion after they were burgled while inside the property.

The 62-year-old talk show host and her 47-year-old actress wife were blissfully unaware that their mansion in the Montecito neighbourhood of Santa Barbara, California, was being ransacked on 4 July.

But now the ladies have taken action to increase their personal protection after the burglars managed to make their way in and out of the property without being noticed.

TMZ reports that jewellery was stolen from the palatial home – although the value of the items stolen has not been revealed.

The news website also claimed: “luckily, they weren’t harmed” during the incident.

CCTV failed to record any burglar or burglars entering the home, but initial investigations have suggested the criminals entered the property via a back door.

TMZ reports: “Our sources say they made a slew of security improvements immediately after the break-in – which include hiring a new security company, installing laser sensors and cameras around the entire property and hiring armed patrol guards.”

Ellen and Portia snapped up the 8,188-square-foot Balinese-style home in early 2019 for an eye-watering $27million.

Ellen has also been presenting her self-titled talk show from the comfort of her living room amid the pandemic.

Other celebs who live in Montecito include Ashton Kutcher and wife Mila Kunis, as well as Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah is actually Ellen’s next-door neighbour, and has a 42-acre estate known as the Promised Land.

The pair have many times spoken about being each other’s neighbour.
