Pupils at Ed Sheeran’s old school are getting their best-ever results thanks to the singer’s gift of 200,000 notes.

The 29-year-old – who got an F in his music exams – gave the cash to fund musical kit, computers, photographic gear and art resources.

The donation to Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk – where he met wife Cherry – was revealed in a progress report.

He then went on to get that low mark when he left the school.

The school’s director of music, Richard Hanley, said: “The grant sets the school apart in access to exceptional arts provision.

“Thank you.

“I feel privileged to work in a school with such excellent facilities.”

Head of art Nikki Sholl revealed photography results had been the best in the six years the course has run, with more than 92 per cent getting A* to C.

She added: “It’s difficult to express just how positively this grant has impacted on teaching and pupils’ experience.”

Ed, whose hit albums include Plus and Divide, got a string of Fs at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, Surrey, which he joined after leaving Thomas Mills.

He left without permission in 2009 to support hip-hop artist Just Jack – and is now worth around £200million.

Ed set up his Framlingham Foundation Trust to support his home region.
