David Walliams threatened to quit Britain’s Got Talent if Piers Morgan was hired to step in for Simon Cowell following his temporary absence from the hit TV show as he recovers from a horror bike accident.

According to reports, 49-year-old David threw a strop over whispers that 55-year-old Piers was poised to replace 60-year-old Cowell during the final rounds of the current season of BGT.

Simon was taken out of action last month when he broke his back falling off an electric bike making him unable to take part in the final episodes of the current series of BGT as he recovers at home in Los Angeles.

Piers has already claimed he was approached to fill in for his former BGT boss – but didn’t want to participate in the show due to his ongoing feud with David.

While it seems David was equally frosty about Piers joining the panel – even as a temporary replacement for Simon.

A source told the Mail on Sunday: “I heard that David threw his toys out of the pram.

“Imagine David and Piers sitting on either end of that judging panel – what great TV it would have been.”

The rumours come as Piers slammed David in a column for the Mail.

He Good Morning Britain star – who served as a judge on BGT from 2007-2010 – wrote: “I was quickly sounded out to see if I was potentially available but had to explain that if I was confined to the same close quarters as that insufferable twerp David Walliams, it wouldn’t end well.”

The stars fell out after Piers noticed David ‘liking’ a string of critical comments written about him on Twitter.

However the full extent of their apparent rivalry is yet to be found.

A BGT spokesman said of the alleged casting process: “The decision regarding who would step in as guest judge was made solely by the producers and Simon with Ashley Banjo the top choice to take part.”
