The Beckhams are hoping to build a whopping 117.5sq-metre wine cellar under the garage at their £6million Cotswolds home.
The famous pair received planning permission for a 81sq-metre cellar at the Grade II-listed converted barn back in June, but have now updated the plans lodged with West Oxfordshire District Council.
The proposed cellar is bigger than the average three-bedroom new build house in Britain, which is 88 sq metres, according to the Royal Institute of British Architects 2011 The Case for Space Report.
Originally the Beckhams had proposed a tunnel linking the cellar to their home, but have now scrapped this idea in favour of a larger cellar, accessed via a staircase.
Wine experts recommend allowing for 100 bottles per square meter of cellar space, meaning the proposed build could store many thousands of bottles.
The Design and Access Statement lodged with the council says that the new plans have only a minor affect on their original application.
It states: “The proposed changes include some amendments to the arrangement of the doors, windows, rooflights and flues of the approved garage outbuilding.
“The proposed amendments are minor in nature and do not affect neighbouring properties or have any impact on the setting of the adjacent listed building.”
The Beckhams’ property sits on ten acres of land and the couple have previously been approved for and implemented multiple changes.
Prior improvements include a revised driveway and gates, an additional garage outbuilding, landscaping, a tennis court and even a treehouse.
The pair have also been given approval to build a new gatehouse to accommodate their 24-hour security guards and add a “pond”, but at 91 metres it could perhaps better be described as a lake.
A separate update to their planning submissions requests permission to add an island on the new pond.
Usually based at their large London pad, the Beckhams have spent much of this year holed up at their sprawling Cotswolds second home, during the coronavirus outbreak.
They have been joined by their three youngest children – 18-year-old Romeo, 15-year-old Cruz, and nine-year-old Harper.
