Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair have recreated their sultry kiss from 1999 film Cruel Intentions, after it was the declared the best kiss of all time.

The kiss won them an MTV Movie & TV Award at the time and they have got together again to celebrate that moment by doing it again for MTV’s Greatest Of All Time show.

Of course, this time the kiss had a very 2020 feel to it as the pair looked to lock lips only to find a pane of glass between them, as per social restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

More than 20 years since their kiss was cemented in cinema history, Sarah, 43, and Selma, 48, showed they still have the touch when it comes to on-screen smooching.

In a video for the show, Sarah joked that their kiss is the “single-most awarded kiss in cinema history — you don’t have to Google it, I already did.”

Selma added: “I think the reason the kiss has resonated with people so long is not just for the initial shock value.

But because it was a catalyst for so many young people to help them realise certain aspects of their sexuality and help make people comfortable to be who they really are.”

Sarah, who also found fame as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, continued: “It also represented a paradigm shift to a new dynamic towards acceptance in pop culture.

“Well, also it was super-hot.”

Selma did not disagree, adding: “You’re not wrong.”

The pair then looked to lock lips again before it was revealed there was a sheet of glass between them as Selma smudged her red lipstick over it, while expressing surprise that it wasn’t her friends’ lips she had puckered up to.

Sarah then referenced the pandemic, saying: “Stay safe, MTV. And, 2020: end soon.”

In the film, the kiss came about when Sarah’s character, Kathryn Merteuil attempt to teach Selma’s Cecile Caldwell how to kiss someone.

The pair have recreated the PDA moment since, most notably when accepting the MTV Award for the kiss, on stage in 2000.

Selma, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2019, shared a series of selfies in February after she was reunited with Sarah and Cruel Intentions director and screenwriter, Roger Kumble.

She captioned the snaps on Instagram : “I can’t show how good it feels to have my friends come and bring lunch and news of the world.

“So I will just share the standard happy selfies. With love.

“Who knew this #cruelintentions trio would be forever?”
