Chris Jericho Gives An Update On AEW Video Game, Says They’re Making Sure It’ll Be Done Right

While there’s still nothing official regarding an All Elite Wrestling video game, we do know that it’s in development somewhere and that some of the company’s top stars are heavily involved in the game’s production.

During a recent interview, Chris Jericho, who is AEW‘s biggest mainstream star, talked about the company’s first video game, saying that fellow company star Kenny Omega and referee Aubrey Edwards are working closely with the development team and that they’re making sure that the game will be done right.

“Kenny (Omega) and Aubrey (Edwards) have a lot to do with the direction of the game. They are spending a lot of time on its development, putting in a lot of time. We want to ensure that the video game is done right and it is not a half-assed effort,” said Jericho.

“I look at our video game similar to our action figure line. People have really appreciated the quality of those toys and how cool they look. I think our video game has to follow in the same suit and be something special. Since people have been waiting anxiously for the game, we want to ensure it is really good.”

While speaking with Venn back in August, the aforementioned Kenny Omega said that All Elite Wrestling’s first video game is in development, although he wouldn’t share which studio the company is working with. He also said that he wants the game to be a brand new take on classic wrestling games such as WrestleMania 2000 and WWF No Mercy, both of which launched for the Nintendo 64 roughly 20 years ago.

“I’m hoping that it really is sort of a brand new take on something that’s like the No Mercy game of old. So, if you liked WrestleMania 2000, No Mercy, VPW – we are very much hoping to recreate the same feel, the same fun-factor, the same pick-up-and-play ability of those games in the past. So, look forward to that. We are working diligently to give you guys something in the near future.”

Of course, this is something that every wrestling game has tried to do for the last several years, but the genre’s biggest developer, 2K, has fallen short of that goal each year. However, they’re saying the same thing regarding WWE 2K22, so we’ll see whether or not they’re finally able to achieve the legendary status of a game like No Mercy when their next annual pro wrestling game hits the market sometime next year.
