Chicago Blackhawks Come Back in the Final Five Minutes to Beat Edmonton Oilers, 4-3

Chicago Blackhawks defeated Edmonton Oilers 4-3 this Wednesday night, after a big comeback in the third frame.

Jeremy Colliton’s team has bounced back after a loss in Game 2 of the Eastern Cup Qualifiers and regained the lead in the series against the Canadian side. This was a big win in every aspect, and it could be the turning point for the team from Chicago, as they managed to come back in the last period and erase a one-goal deficit.

Those who watched this contest saw a lot of back and forth going from both sides, with several lead changes.

At first, it was Chicago who was ahead, as they broke the bank during the middle of the opening sequence. Olli Maatta brought the lead to his crew with a slapshot from near the blue line.

However, Leon Draisaitl was quick to respond, with the German scoring in some 28 seconds after a one-timer. It was obvious after this situation that the game will bring more excitement.

Just five seconds before the end of the opening period, Jonathan Toews was lucky enough to score a goal for the Blackhawks. Kirby Dach sent the puck into the crowd in the crease and it deflected off Toews skate to beat Mikko Koskinen.

Edmonton responded big in the middle frame, scoring two goals and shifting the momentum in those moments. It was Draisaitl who netted first, at 4:07 of the period, and Connor McDavid delivered one more goal, with 8 seconds to go until the end of the same, during a powerplay. Draisaitl’s shot was stopped by Chicago’s goalie Corey Crawford, but McDavid managed to score on a rebound.

When all believed that this game might be over, and that the Oilers have a psychological advantage on the ice, Blackhawks proved them wrong. Following a tough and rough battle in the last part of the game, they would shock the rivals in a little bit more than four minutes.

Matthew Highmore leveled the score at 3-all with 5:47 to go, and after him, Toews added another goal to his tally, with 76 seconds to go. There was no time for the Oilers to respond, and Chicago went away with a big victory.

Game four of this series is set for Friday, at 6:46 pm ET.
