Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett both made history at the ACM Awards this year by tying in the Entertainer of the Year category for the first time ever! It’s safe to say that both country stars had an unforgettable night at the awards show, as did its audience who was able to witness this unique moment.
That being said, closing the show, both Carrie and Thomas were awarded the Entertainer of the Year trophy!
The host, Keith Urban, could not believe it either when he announced the winners, saying, shocked that ‘the winner of the ACM Entertainer of the Year is… We have a tie. This has got to be a first… I do not know if I am going to get… I’ve never heard of it.’
The winners of the big award of the night had nothing against some fair play sharing and expressed their happiness during their heartwarming acceptance speeches.
‘Oh my goodness gracious. What is happening right now? Thank you to the Lord, Jesus Christ…Thank you so much to my wife, and to my baby girls who are watching this right now,’ Thomas Rhett started the speech.
Then Carrie Underwood took over, adding: ‘2020 man! Thank you. God so much. All glory to God. Thank you to the ACM for putting me in such incredible company. I am more than just happy to share this with Thomas Rhett.’
Carrie made history in more ways than just one, however!
The country singer is the only female to win 3 Entertainer of the Year awards.
Not only that, but she was also the only woman entertainer nominated in that category.
The others that got the honor of being on the list but did not walk home with an award were Luke Bryan, Eric Church and Luke Combs.
Congratulations to both Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett!
