Britney Spears under conservatorship ‘for good reason’ and it could be for life

Britney Spears’ former estate manager has said those backing the Free Britney campaign ‘don’t have a clue’ how the law works as he shed some light on her legal conservatorship

Britney Spears’ former estate manager has shed some light on her legal conservatorship, revealing it could last for the rest of her life.

Attorney Andrew Wallet said those backing the Free Britney campaign “‘don’t have a clue” how the law works, as he insisted the Baby One More Time singer, 38, is under the conservatorship for “good reason”.

Her dad Jamie Spears has had control of Britney’s conservatorship since her mental breakdown in 2007, meaning he’s in charge of her business and personal affairs.

Fans have called for her to be released from the set-up, saying she should have control over her own life.

Wallet told the Daily Mail : “Britney is in a conservatorship for good reason but a lot of the Free Britney people have no experience with the law.”

He added: “You have a lot of people who don’t have a clue but meanwhile we can’t talk about it. It’s frustrating but it is what it is.”

The lawyer said that many people are in conservatorships their whole lives.

He explained: “I’m not saying that’s going to be Britney but it could happen to her.”

His comments come amid a court battle over whether Wallet, 67, will be reinstated as co-conservator of Britney’s estate alongside her father Jamie.

Jamie withdrew his petition for Wallet to be reappointed on Monday.

Britney doesn’t want Jamie to continue as sole conservator of her estate and is asking for a wealth management firm to be appointed.

But back in August a judge ruled to keep Jamie in his current role.
