Billie Eilish used her headline performance at there Glastonbury Festival on Friday night to highlight the fact the law has been dragged backwards in the USA as abortion has been made illegal for millions of women across the country.

On Friday, women and their allies around the world reacted in shock and horror when the Supreme Court of the United States overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade case which had made abortion legal across the USA.

But now that the ruling has been overturned almost 50 years later, abortion laws can be dictated at a State level – with the procedure now no longer legal across many States.

Billie, 20, drew attention to the legal changes in the USA as she took to the stage on Worthy Farm in the Somerset countryside.

As she introduced her song titled Your Power she said the song is about the concept of power – and drew a parallel with the end of week ruling.

She said: “The song we’re about to do is I think one of the favourites that we’ve written and it’s about the concept of power and how we need to always remember how not to abuse it.

“And today is a really, really dark day for women in the US. I’m just going to say that as I cannot bear to think about it any longer in this moment.”

There are fears that women could die in certain States across the pond where the procedure has been made illegal as women may seek illegal treatments.

Elsewhere in her set, Billie tried to give a lighter outlook on the world as she encouraged fans to throw away their worries and let her entertain them.

She turned optimistic after a tender rendition of her song Lovely when she turned to address her audience, but became emotional as the crowd went wile.

As she tried to deliver a speech she appeared overwhelmed as she could barely be heard due to the masses chanting her name so loudly.

As the crowd calmed down, she said: “Whatever is going on in your mind, anything that’s bothering you, wasting your time thinking about, something that you just can’t out of your head. I want you to have a f ** tantrum”.

The singer added: “I want everybody to feel loose and free and I don’t want you to give a f*** about anything else except this moment.”

The Glastonbury festival will continue across the weekend with highlights airing across the BBC both on TV and via the radio and online.
