Strictly Come Dancing star Bill Bailey might give too much in his performance this weekend as he fears one of his knees will pop off mid dance.
The 55-year-old comedian has proved to be the surprise hit of the 2020 series – having wowed judges and viewers with his impressive combination of dancing and playing instruments while partnered with 30-year-old professional Oti Mabuse.
However, the funny man fears his ageing body might let him down during Saturday night’s live performance in which he will dance the Argentine Tango.
Discussing a brutal week of rehearsals, Bill explained why he is so anxious ahead of the quarter final performance.
He told the Daily Star of his Argentine Tango plans: “[There is a] peculiar sharp kick in this dance where the leg is flicked at an angle between the legs of your partner.
“For safety’s sake you have to be in perfect sync and make sure you have your legs apart because if you’re in the wrong place, you might end up getting thwacked!
“One wrong step and you might lose a kneecap.
“I myself experienced this pain during training although it wasn’t entirely my fault. Well, that’s my excuse anyway.”
Saturday night’s quarter final is Musical’s themed – with Bill and Oti set to dance to the music of The Phantom of the Opera.
The other contestants taking part in the latest live show are singer HRVY with dance partner Janette Manrara, reality star Jamie Laing with dance partner Karen Hauer, and TV presenter JJ Chalmers with dance partner Amy Dowden.
EastEnders star Maisie Smith with dancer partner Gorka Marquez, and Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh with dance partner Giovanni Bernice complete the line up of professionals.
Betting company PaddyPower have given Bill and Oti odds of 8/11 to take the 2020 Glitterball Trophy.
While HRVY and Janette’s odds are 5/2, Jamie and Karen’s 14/1, JJ and Amy’s 66/1, Maisie and Gorka’s at 11/2 and Ranvir and Giovanni’s at 7/1.
Sunday night’s results show will include a performance from Broadway and West End performer Marisha Wallace singing Climb Ev’ry Mountain from The Sound of Music.
