Amazon Warns Customers That Pre-Ordered PlayStation 5 Consoles May Not Be Available On Release Day

It seems like with every day that passes, we get more bad news regarding the mess that is PlayStation 5 pre-orders.

After opening pre-orders suddenly, the consoles were sold out in a matter of hours, leaving many frustrated and angry. Now, it turns out that some customers who were able to get a pre-order might not get them in time for the console’s release on November 12.

Amazon sent out an email to customers regarding pre-orders for both the PlayStation 5 and the PS5 Digital Edition. In the message, they noted that consoles might not arrive on November 12.

“We’re contacting you about your order of PlayStation 5 to let you know in advance that you may not receive this item on the day it is released due to high demand,” the mass email reads. “We will make every effort to get the item to you as soon as possible once released.”

They go on to note that customers can track the shipment status of their order under the “Your Orders” section of Amazon.com. While on that page, changes can be made to unshipped orders, including cancellations.

This could very well be Amazon trying to cover itself from a legal standpoint. It’s possible that Amazon may not know how many PS5 units it is going to receive, so they’re letting everyone know that there is the potential for delays and not guaranteeing a launch day delivery.

With well over a month until the console’s release, gamers will now have to decide whether they want to roll the dice and keep their Amazon pre-order, or try to get a pre-order somewhere else.

It is possible that more units will be made available soon, as Sony has acknowledged the absolute mess that this process has degenerated into and promised to make more stock available over the next few days.

So, if you have pre-ordered an Amazon PS5 and suddenly GameStop gets more pre-orders, you could have the option of cancelling with one retailer and pre-ordering with another.

But, it also stands to reason that if retailers will be getting more stock then Amazon will be one of the first in line.

The PlayStation 5 and PS5 Digital Edition will be releasing on November 12 in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. The rest of the world will see the console release on November 19.

The PlayStation 5’s chief rival, the Xbox Series X, will be releasing worldwide on November 10. Preorders for the Series X and the smaller digital only Xbox Series S will open on September 22.
