Tupac Shakur would be 49 years old now, his 1996 death sending shockwaves through the music industry and his global fandom.
Today marks 24 years since he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, but despite his death some fans have become convinced that he’s actually still alive.
Many have invested in a number of wild conspiracy theories about where Tupac is now and what he’s doing.
Some claim he’s in prison, others reckon he’s settled down in Malaysia, while yet another group believe his posthumous 2002 track Better Dayz hints he’s still alive.
Below are some of the craziest theories…
Tupac retired to Cuba with the help of Fidel Castro
Locals in Old Havana, Cuba, have been known to claim they’ve spotted Tupac walking about town.
Videos of a man – who bears a resemblance to Tupac – have added fuel to the fire.
Meanwhile, conspiracy theorist Michael Nice claimed he, with the help of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, smuggled him into the country.
Nice goes on to claim that there was a hit out on Tupac’s head, and that a plan to get him to safety was put into action after he was injured during the shooting.
Tupac fled to New Mexico after using a body double
Filmmaker Rick Boss – a foremost Tupac conspiracy theorist – believes Tupac re-settled in New Mexico after he uncovered a plot to kill him.
Boss claims Tupac used a body double or escaped Las Vegas with the aid of a helicopter.
Boss told abcKTNV of his film, 2Pac: The Great Escape from UMC: “This movie is about Tupac actually escaping from University Medical Center here in Vegas and relocating to New Mexico.
“Getting protection from the Navajo tribe.”
Tupac’s friend Suge Knight insinuated he was still alive
Former head of Death Row Records Suge Knight was driving the car the night Tupac was shot.
He told that the star had laughed in the car on the way to hospital.
Suge added that Tupac had spoken about faking his own death when they were on holiday, shortly before he died.
He told: “We was in Maui, you know what I mean, and Pac had, like, never been to Maui. And he got to talking about faking his own death.
“And Pac was more down for doing, like, the last little videos and s*** of him dying all in the white with Redd Foxx and everybody like that.”
Suge’s son, Suge J Knight, had also peddled a theory…
Tupac is alive and the Illuminati are somehow involved
Suge Jr insisted he was not on drugs when he shared footage of a man in Malaysia he claims is Tupac.
He also posted snaps of what looked like an older Tupac posing with Beyonce and 50 Cent – though it’s easy to fake pictures on the Internet.
But Suge Jr added a sinister screengrab of a text message that read: “You said too much. Time for you to go.”
Suge Jr claimed to have replied: “The truth will be out and I’m not going anywhere.”
He followed his posts by sharing a video in which her claimed he was being followed.
“Beware of fake accounts,” he warned, “Their job is to distract you.
“The Illuminati are all about power. This is why you see powerful names getting locked up.”
Some conspiracy theorists believe the world is controlled by a secret society known as the Illuminati.
Tupac was in New York in 2011 and is an Occupy Wall Street activist
Another man bearing a strong resemblance to Tupac stirred debate in 2011.
He was snapped at an Occupy Wall Street protest in New York City, a movement that seeks greater economic equality.
