Adele halts Hyde Park show to help fans

Adele has addressed the public’s fascination with her dramatic weight loss, and the says people don’t realise she used to cry her “heart out” over anxiety.

The chart topper, 34, almost broke the Internet when she rocked up at Drake’s birthday party in May 2020, which showcased her incredible seven stone weight loss.

The pictures left fans scrambling for their keyboards asking how the mum-of-one had achieved the feat.

Speaking on Radio 4 show Desert Island Discs, Adele said she understood why the press had been so interested in her recent dramatic weight loss, as she did not share her journey publicly “like everyone else does”.

Talking to host Lauren Laverne, she went on: “I felt terrible for some people that felt like other people’s comments meant that they weren’t looking good or that they weren’t beautiful.

“Some of the ones I saw were young, they were like 15. And there were some other people who felt very betrayed by me, being like ‘Oh she’s given into the pressure of it’.

“Which didn’t really bother me because you aren’t holding my hand at night at 4am when I’m crying my heart out with anxiety and needing a distraction.”

Adele, who headlined the British Summer Time festival this weekend has spoken previously about how exercise helps with her anxiety.

“It became my time,” Adele told Vogue about exercise. “I realised that when I was working out, I didn’t have any anxiety.”

The singer has since revealed she does weights in the morning, a hike or box in the afternoon followed by cardio in the evening.

She also says she does “rigorous weight-lifting and circuit-training sessions every day” ,which would go to “twice a day if her anxiety is running high”.

Meanwhile, speaking to Oprah, the singer revealed her penchant for boxing, telling the host: “I’ve got a left hook that could kill you.”

However the mum-of-one previously told Rolling Stone magazine, “I mainly moan. I’m not, like, skipping to the f*****g gym”.

Pete Geracimo, Adele’s personal trainer for the 25 tour, explained she wanted to get back into exercise after giving birth to her son, Angelo.

“When 25 dropped and the tour announced, we had to get ready for a 13 month gruelling schedule,” he revealed.

“In that time, she warmed to training. As a result, she lost considerable weight and people took notice.”

The singer has always dismissed claims she’s done the diet or tried “intermittent fasting, insisting: “If anything, I eat more than I used to because I work out so hard.”

However, having previously been “used to drink[ing] ten cups [of tea] a day with two sugars in each,” the star’s eating habits have change d dramatically.

Her lunch is said to often consist of a kale salad with parsley, celery, apples, and walnuts topped with olive oil and lemon juice.

Desert Island Discs will be on Radio 4 at 11.15am on Sunday and on BBC Sounds.
