Marvel Studios have found their latest superhero in the shape of emerging acting talent Iman Villain – who is set to play Ms Marvel.

The 18-year-old Canadian actress will be making superhero history as the first on-screen Muslim hero; Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel.

Iman will be bringing the character to life in a forthcoming Disney + TV series which links in with the big screen marvel movies that include Thor, Captain America and Avengers.

Deadline and the Hollywood Reporter announced that the teen actress will be fronting the forthcoming action adventure TV show.

The series is expected to debut on Disney + in 2022 – with details on the project so far light.

The show has a synopsis reading: “New Jersey raised Kamala Khan learns she has polymorphous powers.”

While fans of the character will know Kamala is a Pakistani-American teen who, in her superhero guise as Ms Marvel, has the power to shape shift and powers of elasticity.

The character also has a friendship with Captain Marvel – who is played by Oscar winning Brie Larson in the Marvel film series.

Iman appears thrilled by the casting news, saying on Instagram: “Speechless and excited! Wish me luck. #msmarvel.”

News of her casting has already created excitement with fans – including Kumail Nanjiani, 42, who is Muslim and is himself set to appear in a Marvel production in the 2021 big screen adventure, Eternals.

Taking to Twitter he wrote: “I just saw they cast Ms. Marvel and legit got teary eyed.

“Congratulations Iman Vellani! Your work is going to mean so much to so many people, myself included. I can’t wait.”

Ms Marvel is just one of many upcoming live action Marvel TV shows that are set to air on Disney +.
