Mrs Hinch’s heartbreaking admission after trolls brand her hands ‘disgusting’
Sophie Hinchliffe, famously known as Mrs Hinch, opened up about how vicious trolls can be online, from critiquing her parenting and her “wonky” face to her “disgusting” hands
Cleaning sensation, Mrs Hinch, revealed why she started wearing rubber gloves in all of her videos, even if they weren’t cleaning related.
Over the last two years, Mrs Hinch, real name Sophie Hinchliffe, racked up over four million Instagram followers with her handy cleaning tips and tricks, winning the hearts of the nation in the process.
But her rapid rise to fame left her with crippling anxiety as she was forced to cope with the ‘darker side’ of her new-found career.
In an interview with You magazine the mum-of-one opened up about trolling and how she is often attacked for her “wonky” face, her voice and even her hands.
She revealed how she started wearing gloves in all of her videos even when she didn’t need to after she was told her hands looked “disgusting” by horrible trolls.
She said: “I know I should ignore them, but when you get told the same thing over and over again – ‘Your voice is horrendous’, ‘Your face is wonky’, ‘Your hands are disgusting’ – there’s only so many times you can ignore it without wondering if it’s true.
“So I look at my hands and think, ‘Maybe people don’t want to see them,’ and put on rubber gloves when I don’t need to,” she heartbreakingly added.
Her one-year-old baby Ronnie has also been a target of the abuse as people would message her and say that he should be moving more, or should have more teeth.
But sometimes the messages aren’t just cruel, they’re threatening.
At one point, she was forced to call the police after trolls left her fearing for her family’s life.
She said: “It was terrifying; it’s a big step telling someone you need help. But my stomach was in knots morning and night and I knew I wasn’t OK. It had got to the stage that my family were worried. Something had to change.”
