Susanna Reid quits column to spend more time with family as she says ‘enough’

Television journalist Susanna Reid has revealed that she is quitting her weekly column

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 49, has spoken about the pitfalls of taking on too much in her latest Femail column for The Daily Mail.

In the latest piece, she spoke about how she has been focused on taking on so many projects, inspired by writing from Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, who encourages women to take on more challenges.

However, Susanna found: “The truth is women have a tendency to say ‘yes’ even when we’re at tipping point. The challenge is saying ‘enough’.”

This, along with being struck by tales of Loose Women star Andrea McLean’s mental health struggles, helped her reach some important decisions.

Susanna revealed that “there comes a time when instead of juggling endless balls in the air, fearful that one will fall, we gently and carefully put one down.

“And that is why, after a fantastic year writing this column, I am handing over the baton.

“It has been an extraordinary year to be engaged with Mail readers as we went into lockdown together.”

It was the announcement of new lockdown changes by Prime Minister Boris johnson that was the impetus for Susanna to focus on her family needs.

Susanna explained: “I want to see my dad more often and spend more time with Mum.

“I want to support my eldest through his strange first year at uni and do a better job helping my younger two with their homework in preparation for a school year that may go online at any moment.”

Thanking readers for their support and sharing their stories with her on her column, Susanna also gave an important message about appearances versus reality.

She concluded: “I may look like I’m in control on TV, but underneath I’m trying to hold it together like we all are.

“Here’s to busy mums everywhere and the power to, occasionally, say ‘enough’.”

Never fear, however, as fans can certainly still catch their Susanna fix on Good Morning Britain every weekday morning on ITV!
