Ellen DeGeneres has spoken about the ‘awful’ accident that happened in her home which left one of her dogs “screaming in pain”.

The 62-year-old talk show host has four dogs and she revealed on Tuesday’s edition of The Ellen DeGeneres Show how her dog Kid suffered a broken leg.

She said that a collision with her poodle, named Wally, had a catastrophic effect on Kid, who now has his leg in plaster following the accident.

Speaking to her viewers, Ellen said at the beginning of her show: “Okay, so here’s the deal. We have pets. You know we have pets. And we have dogs that run around like crazy.

“And there’s a lot of pet traffic when that happens. And sooner or later, there’s bound to be an accident.”

Detailing the accident, Ellen continued: “Over the weekend, our dog Wally, who is, she’s a little over a year, and so she’s a puppy, so she’s got a lot of energy, and she was running full-speed across the lawn.

“Our dog Kid happened to be in the way, and she just trampled over Kid.”

Ellen joked that the speed Wally was running at was “illegal because the speed limit is 25 when there’s a kid nearby.”

Talking about the horrific collision, Ellen said: “Anyway, so Kid was screaming in pain, and we knew that his leg was broken. It was awful, awful, awful.”

She said that her and wife Portia de Rossi then had to rush Kid to a nearby pet hospital for urgent treatment.

Joking about where her dog is now in its recovery, she said: “Kid has to wear that cast for 12 weeks, which is like 84 weeks my time.”

The news about her pet’s accident came on the second day of Ellen’s show returning to screens, following a summer in which she faced allegations of workplace toxicity.

She addressed these on Monday’s return to TV, saying that she “learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.”

An internal investigation was conducted by WarnerMedia after numerous complaints about the environment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Three producers – Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman and Jonathan Norman – promptly left the show as the investigation began.
