Amber Heard has told a court she was “smothered”, “slapped” and “suffocated” in the “most violent night” of her relationship with Johnny Depp.
Heard, 34, has returned to London’s High Court for her third day giving evidence in Depp ‘s libel case against News Group Newspapers.
Depp, 57, is suing NGN over a story published in The Sun in 2018 which branded him a “wife beater” – a claim which he strenuously denies.
During today’s testimony, the actress was questioned about a heated row with Depp on the night of their Thanksgiving bash at their Los Angeles home on November 26 2015.
Heard told the court it was “one of the worst and most violent nights of our relationship”.
She claimed he was high on drugs, telling the court: “We were in our place in LA. Johnny was using a lot of drugs at the time, especially cocaine and weed, which he was pretty much constantly smoking.
“We got into a fight on Thanksgiving, where Johnny ripped my shirt and threw me across the room. He threw a wine glass and a heavy glass decanter at me, which thankfully both missed me.”
She alleged Depp slapped her, grabbed her by the hair and dragged her from room-to-room in their apartment.
Heard went on to allege he headbutted her, grabbed her by the throat, pushed her face down into a mattress, smothered her, pulled out more hair and put his knee on her back as he suffocated her with such force the bed broke.
The court was shown a video of the party which took place that night, which was attended by the couple’s friends and family, including Heard’s dad David and Depp’s son Jack and rocker Marilyn Manson.
In the clip, Heard’s dad ran round whipping people with a scarf as revellers shouted jokingly “he’s a monster, he’s a savage.”
Heard told the court the alleged attack happened after everyone had gone to bed.
She said: “Our fights never happened in front of the whole family. They happened behind closed doors after everyone had gone home or gone to bed.”
Depp has denied being violent towards his wife during the row.
During today’s testimony, Heard claimed Depp threw 30 bottles at her during a row in Australia in 2015 – Depp denies attacking her – and left her with oozing scalp wounds after being “headbutted” in an argument in Los Angeles on December 15 in 2015.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star admitted headbutting Heard but insisted it was an accident. He claimed he was not violent towards her during the row.
Depp has denied he was ever violent towards his ex-wife and has accused her of abusing him during their marriage.
Lawyers for NGN are defending their case based on Heard’s 14 allegations of abuse, which include claims of bust-ups between 2013 and 2016.
The actor has argued his ex-wife was abusive towards him during the marriage, which collapsed in 2016.
