Singer Tweet Says Women In Music Are Expected To Be Hyper ‘Sexualized’

Singer-songwriter, Tweet, explained in a new interview that she won’t be following in the footsteps of artists like Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B, at least in terms of showing off her sexuality for views and albums streams.

As most hip-hop fans know, Megan and Cardi B dropped a new song together, “WAP,” which featured Kylie Jenner and the aforementioned artists in provocative clothing and poses.

Tweet claimed in a Page Six interview that she wasn’t going to do the same thing, even though the music industry supposedly pressures women to sexualize themselves. The singer-songwriter believes the over-sexualization of women is a real phenomenon in the business.

She claimed it’s “very over-sexualized; very naked.” She went on to say she wasn’t willing to participate in such a system. Furthermore, the performing artist told a story of how she showed up to a photoshoot recently and discovered the stylist only had bustiers and leotards for her to wear.

Tweet says she asked, “no, where did the clothing go?” As it was noted above, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion sparked headlines when they released the music video for their song, “WAP,” which featured the reality star, Kylie.

While the single did well on the charts and on streaming platforms, many criticized the video for being “too raunchy.” Cardi B touched on the criticism on her social media, as did Doja Cat, with the latter accusing social media users of being prudish and too conservative, as if they were from the 1940s.

Followers of the controversy know the music video sparked criticism on other fronts as well, particuarly for its inclusion of Kylie Jenner, whom fans have accused of exploiting black culture for her own gain.

In fact, some fans were so upset that they started an online petition asking for Kylie to be removed from the video and replaced with another black artist. Obviously, Cardi B was unbothered by the petition because she shouted out to Kylie Jenner after the news was revealed.

CeeLo Green also touched on the sexualization of women in the music industry using Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B as examples, however, he later apologized.
