Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have confirmed they have filmed an SMTV reunion show that will air later this year.

The special one off episode will see the pair join forces with former co-host Cat Deeley as they relive their fond memories from the iconic Saturday morning kids show.

Ant and Dec shared the exciting news during an appearance on BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball Breakfast Show this morning.

Zoe, who starred in rival show Live and Kicking, quizzed the pair on rumours they were bring back their first ITV show after they were pictured with Deeley earlier this year.

“There’s definitely an SMTV reunion,” Dec was happy to announce. “We’ve filmed a show already which is looking back at the story of SMTV and how it came about.

“So that’s going to be on later this year.”

However, that’s not all as Dec revealed they had so much fun making the special they are now considering a one off live show.

“When we did it we were all sat there and we thought, ‘We should do another one, one time, and just get up and do it’.

“And do it live at 9:25 on a Saturday morning for three hours and get bands on.

“I don’t know let’s see. We’d love to do it but I don’t know if we can,” said Dec.

“Please make that happen!” cried Zoe.

Dec said if they returned for SMTV Live then Zoe and Jamie Theakston would have to present Live and Kicking on the other side.

“I don’t think we could take you on!” laughed Zoe. “When you two started out we were doing pretty well in the ratings on the other side me and Jamie and Mr Blobby but then you trounced us by the end. We had to leave! We had to retire!”

SMTV Live ran on Saturday mornings on ITV between 1998 and 2003 with Ant and Dec hosting the show with Cat for four years before they quit in 2001.

Cat left the following year and went on to find fame hosting shows in America.

At it’s peak SMTV drew in 2.5million viewers with much-loved sketches including Wonkey Donkey, Challenge Ant and Chums.

Dec described being on the show as ‘the best time in our lives’, no mean feat considering his illustrious and decade-spanning time in the industry with best pal Ant.

The pair reflect on their 30 year TV careers in new book Once Upon A Tyne, which is out this week.

Ant and Dec will also be returning to our screens to front the Britain’s Got Talent finals and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! later this year.

As the pals appeared on her show this morning, Zoe asked if they knew the full I’m A Celeb line-up.
