Ex-EastEnders star Katie Jarvis has been released from bail after her arrest earlier this month on suspicion of assault and a racially aggravated public order.
The star, who played Hayley Slater on the soap between February 2018 and 2019, was accused of being involved in a drunken street brawl with five other women in which she allegedly called one a “f**king black c***” and yelled “f**k Black Lives Matter”.
The 29-year-old actress was arrested by Essex Police after the booze-fuelled street fight outside Papillon cafe in Southend-on-Sea, and has now been released under investigation.
A force spokesman said at the time: “A 29-year old woman was arrested on Friday, July 31 just after 10.05pm following reports of a disturbance in Marine Parade, Southend.
“She has been arrested on suspicion of assault and racially aggravated public order. She has been released on bail until Friday, August 21.”
In footage posted to Facebook and seen more than 20,000 times, Katie and the other five women brawl as their fight spills out from the drinking area of the cafe into the street, as other punters dart out of the way.
Another woman attempts to break up the fight, along with a man, until a police van pulls up and cops intervene.
A witness said the woman identified as Katie was escorted away while yelling, “I’m a famous actress!”, as one of her friends said: “She’s Hayley Slater from EastEnders!”
It’s believed the group became involved in a row when Katie allegedly tried to take a chair from the table at which the other group were sitting.
The pushing soon turned into punching as the brawl spilled into the street, with tables and chairs being pushed over and glasses being smashed.
Police arrived at the scene in a van and arrested one woman.
Katie is the mother of two children – Lillie Mae, 11, and Alfie, eight – and hit headlines last year when it emerged she was working as a security guard at B&M in Romford after leaving EastEnders.
In a subsequent interview with Grazia, the actress said she was made to feel ashamed of having a normal job.
“It’s the nature of being an actor; gigs come and go, and after my contract with EastEnders ended in February, I found a new job as soon as I could,” she said at the time.
“Doing work like this is also what keeps me grounded.”
