Pregnant star Ashley James confessed she was plagued with guilty feelings after her initial disappointment about having a baby boy because she wanted to impart her knowledge about men to her future daughter
Pregnant Ashley James voiced her disappointment about finding out she was having a baby boy.
Initially the reality star, 33, felt guilty but now she recognises the importance she has of raising an “incredibly respectful son” with her boyfriend Tom Andrews.
The social media influencer become synonymous with her then-single status for six years after she suffered bouts of heartache when she was played by men.
Inevitably former Made In Chelsea’s Ashley fell in love again and this time for keeps.
So it’s no wonder she felt guilty when she discovered she was having a boy after she had dreamt of being able to impart her knowledge and experience of men to her future daughter.
She told her Instagram followers: “I think a lot of people feel guilty because: A) Having a baby is such a blessing they feel guilty to admit any disappointment.
“B) They worry people will judge them or think they won’t love their child
“For me, I’m passionate about empowering women. I’ve spent the last decade on a huge journey trying to build self esteem, boundaries and confidence. I’d love to pass this down to a daughter.”
It’s all a learning mode for Ashley as she said she will have to separate her negative experience with men from the gender now she’s going to have a boy.
She said: “I also have had a lot of negative experiences with men, and learning I was having a boy made me deal with a lot of that and also work on separating my negative experiences from an entire sex.”
Ashley gave a candid response to a Q&A fan question about gender disappointment which she confessed to feeling herself.
Among the questions, one wrote: “Can you tell us more about your gender disappointment? I think there’s a stigma around it.”
Ashley went public with her pregnancy joy in April this year.
It has been something of a whirlwind romance as Ashley set her heart on Tom when they started dating in October last year.
The couple jetted off to Tom’s parents’ home in the Dordogne in France for the lockdown period.
On announcing her pregnancy joy, Ashley confessed she had never felt maternal like many of her friends.
She told Hello! magazine : “It’s been such a 360-degree shift for me.
“I’ve never been that maternal. When friends have been like: ‘I want to meet someone, settle down and have children,’ I never felt the same.
“I guess I’ve been a free spirit.”
