Simon Cowell was reportedly left feeling very groggy but he’s been upbeat after he had back surgery following his nasty fall off an electric bike

Simon Cowell reportedly felt very groggy when he emerged from spinal surgery following his back break.

The X Factor boss, 60, could have been left paralysed after he fell off his new electric bike at his Malibu mansion over the weekend on Saturday.

It’s understood it will take weeks for the bruising and swelling to go down but Simon has reportedly been awake and upbeat.

Claims serious lasting effects have yet to be known following the emergency six-hour surgery.

A source told The Sun : “He’s only just out of surgery and feeling very groggy but is awake and upbeat.

“Everyone hopes he will make a full recovery but they don’t want to count their chickens just yet.”

The insider added: “It’ll be several weeks for the bruising and swelling to go down and then we’ll know how serious the lasting effects could be.”

Mirror Online reached out to Simon Cowell’s representatives for comment.

Simon has spoken out for the first time after his nasty fall.

The TV sensation took to Twitter to give an update to his 11.3million followers in his own words on Monday.

He wrote: “Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.”

Simon praised his doctors and nurses as “some of the nicest people” he has ever met.

He added: “And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors.

“Some of the nicest people I have ever met. Stay safe everyone Simon.”

His close friend confided in The Mirror he narrowly missed being paralysed for life by 1cm.

Many of his celeb pals have wished him a speedy recovery on social media.

Amanda Holden wrote: “I’ve been thinking about my dear friend all day and luckily I’m able to say (with blessing) that he’s had his operation and he’s doing really well.

“Chris Lexi Hollie and me wish you a speedy recovery and send you, Lauren and Eric all our love.”

America’s Got Talent co-star Sofia Vergara wrote: “We miss our boss!! Come back fast @simoncowell!!”

Heidi Klum added: “Wishing you a speedy recovery @simoncowell.”

His spokesperson detailed the fall which left Simon with a broken back in a number of places.

The spokesperson added: “Simon has broken his back in a number of places in a fall from his bike whilst testing a new electric bike in the courtyard of his home in Malibu with his family.

“He was taken to hospital where they operated overnight, he’s under observation and is doing fine.”
