Amanda Holden has given fans an update on her “dear friend” Simon Cowell after he endured a six-hour emergency surgery to fix his broken back.

Simon, 60, suffered a nasty fall from a new electric bike he was testing out at his mansion in Malibu on Saturday.

Ans now his pal, and Britain’s Got Talent sidekick Amanda, 49, shared a sweet throwback snap of the pair as she updated fans on how he’s getting on after a gruelling day in the operating room.

Father-of-one Simon was left needing a doctor’s magic touch after he fell badly onto his back before being taken to hospital where they identified several breaks and rushed him into surgery.

Amanda took to Instagram to let fans know how Simon is doing, as she wrote to her 1.5 million followers: “I’ve been thinking about my dear friend all day and luckily I’m able to say (with blessing) that he’s had his operation and he’s doing really well.

“Chris Lexi Hollie and me wish you a speedy recovery and send you, Lauren and Eric all our love,” alongside a heart emoji.

Amanda and Simon have been close pals ever since he hired her as a BGT judge back in 2007.

Former American Idol judge Paula Abdul – who appeared alongside Simon on the show – penned: “Keeping Simon Cowell in my heart and thoughts and praying for a speedy recovery.”

Meanwhile Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan – who is close pals with the music mogul – said: “Sounds a very nasty accident.

“I wish Simon a successful operation and a full & speedy recovery.”

Simon’s accident was so bad that he could have been left him paralysed.

His close friend told the Mirror although his back was broken in several places as he narrowly missed breaking his spinal cord “by a centimetre”.

The shocking injury would have left him unable to walk again, but luckily Simon’s tumble wasn’t as extreme.

He had been set to shoot the first live America’s Got Talent show on Tuesday at Universal Studios to kick off the series’ 15th season, however he will now be resting for the foreseeable future.

A statement from his spokesperson confirmed he broke his back and had surgery to fix it.

The spokesperson said: “Simon has broken his back in a number of places in a fall from his bike whilst testing a new electric bike in the courtyard of his home in Malibu with his family.

“He was taken to hospital where they operated overnight, he’s under observation and is doing fine.”
