Ant and Dec break social media silence as I’m A Celeb is relocated to the UK

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have broken their social media holiday to share a post close to both their hearts just hours after the I’m A Celeb revamp was announced.

The telly duo – who stepped away from the spotlight at the start of the month – shared a link to a petition calling for a probe into football club takeovers.

They posted it on their joint Twitter page with an emoji of a football.

The petition on Change.org demands an investigation into the English Premier League takeover process following the collapse of a £300 million deal to sell the Geordie duo’s beloved Newcastle United last week.

The club was on the verge of being sold to a Saudia Arabia-backed consortium, which then withdrew citing the “prolonged process” as the reason the deal fell through.

More than 90,000 have signed the petition which states the collapse of the deal deprived Ant and Dec’s hometown of Newcastle of some “well-needed investment into the local football club as well as the city as a whole”.

The tweet came just hours after ITV bosses confirmed Ant and Dec’s annual jaunt to Australia has been cancelled.

The show has been relocated to a ruined castle in the UK due to concerns about coronavirus restrictions Down Under.

The tweet backing the petition also marks the second time Ant and Dec have failed to maintain their social media silence since they stepped away at the start of the month .

Dec previously returned to Twitter to thank fans for their messages as he celebrated his fith wedding anniversary with his wife Ali Astall

He tweeted: “PS. Thanks for all the anniversary wishes for me and Mrs D. 5 years today. [Blowing kiss emoji, heart emoji]”.

Last weekend, the telly favourite confirmed they would be going quiet on social media until the end of the month.

In a joint statement, they said: “We’re both taking a break for a few weeks to spend time with family and friends.

“Wishing everyone a great month and we’ll see you at the end of August!”
