Johnny Depp shares his first TikTok video in June
Filming is underway on Johnny Depp ‘s first major movie role following his defamation trial against Amber Heard earlier this year.
The actor, 59, takes on the role of King Louis XV in French director Maïwenn Le Besco’s historical love story Jeanne du Barry, in which the female director will also co-star alongside Depp.
In a promotional image for the upcoming film, the dad-of-two looks unrecognisable thanks to a blonde wig and a black blindfold concealed the majority of his face.
Depp can be seen sporting 18th-century clothing – including a gold regal jacket – and appears to have adorned his lips with a rouge lip paint and lightened his normally tanned skin.

The star’s latest gig marks his first feature film role in three years, and comes following his high-profile libel victory against ex-wife Amber in June this year.
Deadline reports that filming commenced on July 26 for 11 weeks, with locations including Versailles and other chateaux in the Paris region, and the movie is expected to be released next year.
The period drama – which will be Depp’s first film in French – is inspired by the life of Jeanne du Barry, Louis XV’s last royal mistress at the Court of Versaille, after Madame de Pompadour.

Depp’s co-stars on the upcoming film include Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Benjamin Lavernhe, Noémie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory and India Hair.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star’s return to acting comes after the actor’s lengthy career was heavily discussed throughout his explosive six-week libel trial against Aquaman actress Amber.
Depp successfully sued his ex-wife over a newspaper article titled: “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”

Although the op-ed did not directly name the actor, Depp’s lawyers successfully argued in court that the article defamed him and impacted his career, thanks to the implied allegations he had abused his ex-wife throughout their marriage – something the actor has always strongly denied.
During the explosive trial in Fairfax County, Virginia, Depp’s former talent agent of over 30 years claimed her ex client would keep film crews waiting “around for hours and hours” and became a difficult client to work with towards the end of their working relationship together, due to what she claimed to be “unprofessional behaviour”.
Depp’s witnesses and the actor himself argued his ex-wife’s allegations surrounding their relationship – that he strongly denies – had negatively impacted his successful career and had resulted in him missing out on a number of lucrative film roles.

In their verdict, the jury found that all three statements from Heard’s Washington Post op-ed were false, defamed Mr Depp, and made with actual malice, so the jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages from his ex-wife.
Following the verdict being delivered on June 1, Depp took to Instagram to share a statement in which he thanked his fans for their support and credited the jury for “giving me my life back”.
A number of celebrities, including Paris Hilton and Jennifer Aniston, quickly liked Depp’s celebratory post – with publisher Buzzfeed compiling a record of all the famous names amongst the now-almost 20million ‘likes’ on June 2.
In the wake of unsealed court documents being released earlier this month, a number of celebrities – including Sophie Turner and model Bella Hadid – have seemingly removed their ‘like’ from Depp’s victory Instagram post.
