Jake Paul’s home has been searched by FBI agents leading to multiple firearms being seized.
The controversial 23-year-old YouTube star was subjected to a search warrant by agents at his home in Calabasas, with it alleged that he is connected to a riot at an Arizona shopping mall.
In a statement, the FBI said that no arrests were planned but several firearms were taken from the property, including a gun that was propped up against a hot tub in the garden.
The statement said: “The FBI is investigating allegations of criminal acts surrounding the incident at Scottsdale Fashion Square in May 2020.”
There had been misdemeanour charges filed against Jake in early June, in connection with a riot at a shopping mall in Phoenix.
The YouTuber had claimed that he was there to find people protesting against the death of George Floyd.
Jake was allegedly identified as one of the rioters at the location by the Scottsdale Police Department and was charged with criminal trespass and unlawful assembly.
He denied that he had been involved in anything unlawful and was simply wanting to “share our experience and bring more attention to the anger felt in every neighborhood we traveled through.” Scottsdale police have said on Wednesday that these charges have now been dropped. Their statement read: “It has been decided that in the cases charging Jake Paul, Arman Izadi and Andrew Leon it is in the best interest of the community to dismiss misdemeanor charges without prejudice so that a federal criminal investigation can be completed.”
The FBI search comes a fortnight after Jake was slammed by the local mayor for hosting a huge party at his Calabasas mansion.
A lack of social distancing and no use of masks had seen a huge backlash, especially as California has seen a steep rise in coronavirus cases and restrictions have been in place in certain areas.
Mayor Alicia Weintraub hit out at the event, saying that residents had expressed outrage to her, saying “tons of people walking on the street unmasked and then gathering.”
Weintraub told ABC News: “I was very upset that somebody would hold such an outrageous gathering in our community.
“We’re trying to do everything we can to get our numbers down and keep our community safe, and something like this just does the opposite.”
