Wagatha Christie: ‘No winners’ in libel case says Cundy

Coleen Rooney ‘s pal Lizzie Cundy has claimed Rebekah Vardy “kept blaming everyone else” for leaked stories as it was confirmed she had lost the Wagatha Christie case.

Rebekah, 40, had brought a libel case against Coleen, 36, after a social media post in 2019 claimed that Rebekah’s account on Instagram had leaked stories about Coleen.

The case was heard at the High Court in London over two weeks earlier this year, with judge Mrs Justice Steyn ruling in favour of Coleen for the verdict, announced today.

Prior to the verdict being issued earlier, Lizzie, 54 – who is understood to be friends with Coleen – shared her thoughts on the high profile case whilst on GB News on Friday morning.

“It wasn’t about the money. It was about credibility and [Rebekah] wanted Coleen to say sorry. Sadly, the girls came to loggerheads and neither were gonna back down,” the 54-year-old began.

Lizzie – who is a former WAG herself, having previously been married to Jason Cundy, 52 – said that Rebekah “felt she had no choice” but to escalate the case to the High Court.

The TV personality said she believes Rebekah had wanted to “get an apology and to win this because she was saying she had nothing to do” with stories about Coleen being leaked.

Lizzie, however, claimed that Rebekah didn’t have as a strong a case in court.

“It transpired in the court case she just didn’t seem to have the evidence,” she said, before adding “those crucial WhatsApp messages were on the bottom of [the sea]” and that PR agent Caroline Watt – who had “the finger pointed at her” – had been absent from court.

“The girl that she was pointing the finger at saying she had access to her Instagram account was her PR agent Caroline Watt. She was too fragile to make court,” Lizzie continued.

She said the defence noted that Rebekah had a history of “leaking stories before,” with her citing Peter Andre having his “anatomy all over the front pages” as an example.

Lizzie also said she felt the case had been “so unnecessary” and added that Rebekah “kept blaming everyone else” when it came to claims of her leaking stories about different people.

And discussing her pal Coleen, she said she had a “good, strong case,” and that Coleen just wanted to be “vindicated” for making her initial accusation.

Following the verdict, Colee n said she was “pleased” that the judge found in her favour, with Rebekah saying instead that she was “extremely sad and disappointed” over it.

The Mirror has approached Rebekah’s representative asking for comment.
