David Beckham wishes Lionesses luck ahead of Euros semi

David Beckham has thanked the England football team for inspiring his only daughter Harper.

The Lionesses sailed into the semi-finals after beating Spain 2-1 last week and will be taking on Sweden on Tuesday evening.

The dad-of-four took to Instagram to share his excitement ahead of tonight’s match.

“Hey Lionesses, it’s David here. So I just wanted to send you a message, firstly, to say congratulations on an incredible tournament so far,” he beamed.

“It’s been so uplifting, it’s been so exciting and it’s been so inspiring. And, for me personally, I have a daughter so for her to be inspired by you girls and your performances has been incredible.”

The former Manchester United ace continued: “But it’s not just the girls that are getting inspired, the boys are getting inspired as well by this, and we all know that when big tournaments come around, our country and our fans get behind us like no other.

“So it’s been incredible to see, the performances, but for me personally, the game against Spain is really what brings the nation together.

“So to win a game like that in that manner. It really has uplifted the whole country.”

David then added: “So, good luck for the semi final, we are all behind you, we’re all excited to see it, and I know there’s one person who’s really excited to see it and that is my daughter Harper. So thank you for inspiring her and good luck girls.”

The team won 2-1 against Spain last Wednesday

In March David shared a video of him and a younger Harper playing football together for International Women’s Day.

Fans were impressed with Harper’s footie skills, with one person writing: “teach her to bend it like Beckham!”

Another added: “Daddy’s girl,” with a red love heart.

He captioned the video: “So grateful to have such inspiring, loving and hard-working women in my life today and every day. Happy International Women’s Day @sandra_beckham49 @victoriabeckham #HarperSeven #IWD.”

David is currently enjoying a holiday onboard a £1.6million-a-week super yacht with his family, but is clearly still finding time to watch the footie.

England’s women have been to the Euros eight times and have reached the final twice, but are yet to win the competition.

They were so close to winning in the first year after coming second to Sweden following a shootout.

At the time they only had 2,500 fans watching, whereas this year they were watched by nine million viewers on the BBC.
