Rocker Pete Doherty has claimed EastEnders bosses once offered him a starring role in the soap.

The Libertines frontman, 43, said he would much rather have been an actor than a musician, adding: “I love it.”

Speaking of the BBC ’s alleged offer, he revealed: “There are a few things that have fallen through over the years that I was a bit disappointed about – opportunities that came up that I didn’t take.

“I was going to get a part in EastEnders at one point. It was around this time that the Libertines re-formed too.”

The chart-topping Indie band reunited in both 2010 as well as 2014.

Pete also revealed he turned down a £100,000 offer to go on Celebrity Big Brother as they refused his demand to have 15 minutes off camera each day.

He also had a failed attempt to chat up EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer and was kicked off Top of the Pops.

Pete says in his new book A Likely Lad: “I remember a Sky One show because I asked out Patsy but her boyfriend was stood right next to her, so it was a bit embarrassing.

“We also got thrown out of Top of the Pops. Someone in the crowd shouted crackhead and we dived in and started fighting with him. Luckily, we’d already done the run-through, so they used that as the actual televised bit.”

Pete, whose band played Glastonbury last Friday, already has links to EastEnders and late actress June Brown.

June, who played Dot Cotton, tried to help him beat his addiction to drugs.

She ran a charity that helped people receive treatment at a Thai monastery.

At the time, June said: “I’m a huge Libertines fan, it would be a marvellous place for Pete to kick his addiction.”

The singer eventually jetted off for his stint but lasted just a few days

He enjoyed a second spell in 2014 and claimed to have recovered but relapsed after arriving home to Margate, Kent.
