Selena Gomez said that her break up with Justin Bieber left her questioning her career, but she pushed through and says that she’s learned a lot through the ‘tough’ split

Selena Gomez now refuses to ‘tolerate nonsense or disrespect’ from future relationships after her breakup with Justin Bieber.

The singer and actress said said how proud she was after she put herself first and stood up for what she wanted from a relationship.

The 29-year-old told The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast that she used the split to practice self love and compassion.

“It allowed me to develop a character where I don’t tolerate any sort of nonsense or disrespect,” she said.

But despite her new found confidence, she did have moments where she was left rethinking her entire career following the “tough” split.

“I was, you know, obviously going through a really tough breakup, and then I was left with the question of my career and where am I gonna go and what’s gonna happen,” she said.

She and Justin who were together almost eight years, split in 2018, a year after she had a kidney transplant following a lupus diagnosis.

“And then my medical stuff kind of kicked in, but being on the other side of it, I have to be honest, it’s actually been really good for me,’ she admitted.

“It was necessary for me to walk through those things, I had a lot of soul searching to do,” she explained.

“By all means, I don’t have life figured out, but I do know that during that time I was learning so much about myself.”

He went on to marry model and socialite Hailey Baldwin the same year.

But for the Only Murders In The Building star, she’s not in any hurry to meet anyone knew.

She called the split ‘tough’ but said that it has made her realise what she expects in a relationship

“I find my toleration of any sort of discomfort, usually disrespect, or whatever, even just unnecessary stuff — it’s not taking over me anymore,” she said.

The actress and singer is currently starring alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short in the new hit Hulu comedy series.

She gave credit to her co-stars for helping her to expect higher standards in her partners.

“Being around two adult gentlemen — because that’s what they are, they are very sweet and kind and hilarious and inappropriate sometimes and it’s the best — I just learned so much,” she explained.

She is currently starring in Hulu’s hit new comedy Only Murders In The Building

“And my expectation for a man, to be honest, or any human, is to be as decent as these two human beings are. They have been doing this longer than I’ve been alive, and they are the kindest people.”

Justin recently shared the news with fans that he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which has caused complete paralysis of the right side of his face.

The Canadian star has been forced to postpone upcoming tour dates, adding that he “knows the storm will pass” and said that Jesus is with him.
