Katya Jones has reflected on the scandal that surrounded her 2018 season of Strictly Come Dancing saying her kiss with Seann Walsh made her more talked about than Brexit.
The 31-year-old professional dancer was partnered with 35-year-old comedian Seann during the 16th series of Strictly.
The duo made headlines that year when they were photographed locking lips in public – while Katya was married to fellow Strictly star Neil Jones, 38, who she later split from in 2018.
The fabled Strictly ‘curse’ was cited as fans of the BBC show dissected Katya and Seann’s kiss – and now the dancer herself has claimed she became the biggest talking point in the country due to the scandal.
Speaking to The Sun, Katya said: “There aren’t any regrets because that’s not how I like to lead my life.
“Of course certain things made it hell, all the attention – and I think for two weeks Brexit was forgotten!
“I’m happy to talk about it now – it doesn’t affect me, it doesn’t affect who I am.”
Katya was competing with 38-year-old gold medal winning Olympic athlete Nicola Adams for the 2020 series of Strictly.
However the pair were forced to quit the competition after Katya tested positive for coronavirus during the third week of live shows.
The pair are set to return to Strictly next week during the live final and will dance again – after wowing fans with their impressive routines.
Katya and Nicola made Strictly history this year by becoming the first same-sex pairing to compete on the show.
And Katya – who is single following the collapse of her marriage to Neil – says she has now attracted attention from female admirers as a result.
She said: “Well, I have been getting quite a few messages from girls now which has been nice.
“But no-one famous… why don’t they slide into my DM’s?! I am very much single….”
She added: “Have I ever dated a girl? No I haven’t but maybe a woman wouldn’t want to go out with me because I’m a bossy woman!”
