Geri Halliwell has recalled being told that a nail bomber was planning to target her during her first solo performance at the Brit Awards in 2000.

Ahead of taking the stage, the former Spice Girl, 48, was warned by police not to continue with the show but she refused to pull-out.

David Copeland, who was jailed for life in 2000, planned to assassinate the pop sensation on stage because of her friendship with music legend George Michael, Geri has claimed.

The singer – who shot to fame as Ginger Spice and now has he last name Horner – says she fearlessly ignored evil Copeland’s threat and said she would not be bullied into cancelling her performance.

Geri, who was close pals with the late Wham! star George Michael, told The Sun: “It was before my first ever performance as a solo artist that he issued me with a death threat.

“He threatened to shoot me, and hated the fact I hung out with the gays, and was friends with George Michael.

“He hated me for camping it up, for loving the gays and for being friends with George. I told him to do one.”

She added that “Scotland Yard were involved” and that law enforcement visited her home to “officially” warn her alongside advising her to pull out of the show.

Geri recalls: “I said ‘I’m sorry, I’m not going to be bullied by this’.”

The night she performed her single Bag It Up at Earls Court Exhibition Centre, police were present and security was amped up due to the threat.

Copeland, who terrorised London in 1999 with three bombs, is serving six concurrent life sentences with a minimum term of 50 years.

He targeted black people in Brixton, Muslims in Brick Lane and a gay pub in Soho.

Three people died in the explosions, including a pregnant woman, and four of the 139 people injured lost limbs.

Copeland was convicted of murder after jurors and prosecutors refused to accept his plea of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
