Mario Lopez will star as KFC icon Colonel Sanders in a romantic new Lifetime movie.

US network Lifetime is to air a 15-minute short film this weekend starring the iconic restauranteur, who founded the international fast food chain in 1952.

Saved By The Bell star Mario, known for his iconic role as AC Slater on the teen comedy, will portray Kentucky legend Colonel Harland Sanders for the KFC-themed short.

The film promises to provide “mystery, suspense, deception, ‘fowl’ play and at the heart of it all… love and fried chicken.”

The plot follows a young heiress encouraged to choose a romantic suitor by her domineering mother.

However, her world is changed – in steamy fashion – by her relationship with her hunky chef Colonel Sanders. As a result of this pairing, the heiress’ mother and one of her rejected suitors unite to tear the couple apart.

Sharing a poster promoting the film to their Twitter account, Lifetime penned: “Mark your calendars because Lifetime and @KFC have partnered for a Lifetime Original Mini-Movie you don’t want to miss! A Recipe For Seduction starring @MarioLopezviva premieres Sunday at 12PM.”

Tweeting about the film himself, Mario shared the poster and tweeted: “Colonel Sanders is adding some sabor to the menu… get your appetite ready…’ He tagged his post “Finger Lickin Good”.

Naturally, Mario’s followers provided quite a reaction to the bizarre and unlikely film.

One penned: “I’m still baffled that this is real.”

Another Twitter user replied: “Me too. I had to rub my eyes a few times! I’m gonna watch it though: when it comes out!”

Meanwhile, a different person on social media wrote: “Nooooooooooo….LOL You’re still fine. But COLONEL SANDERS???????”

A different person asked: “This ain’t a real promo poster is it? If so, it’s making me wanna go to KFC instead.”

Finally, another follower of Mario’s concluded: “I’m a big fan of KFC and Mario Lopez. Count me in. Original > Crispy and Chicken Littles are underrated.”

Well, we wonder whether it will be finger lickin’ good!

A Recipe for Seduction airs on Lifetime in the US on December 13.
