Kay Burley has taken to Twitter to come clean about breaking Coronavirus rules.
The Sky News star celebrated her 60th birthday over the weekend and shared on the micro-blogging site on Monday evening that she “inadvertently broke the rules” due to nature calling after visiting a “Covid compliant” eatery.
She shared that she made an “error of judgement” and expressed her embarrassment at the situation.
Kay began: “Evening everyone I want to apologise to you all for an error of judgment. On Saturday night I was enjoying my 60th birthday at a Covid compliant restaurant. I am embarrassed to say that later in the evening I inadvertently broke the rules.”
In a second tweet, she continued: “I had been waiting for a taxi at 11 pm to get home. Desperate for the loo I briefly popped into another restaurant to spend a penny. I can only apologise.”
Kay’s admission was met with a mixed response on social media.
Some of her followers did not see the reason for her apology and understood that she was caught short.
One penned: “At 60, a woman’s bladder has a life of it’s own!”
A second added: “The fact that you felt you had to apologise for this shows what is wrong with this country!”
Others typed: “Having to use the toilet is not an error of judgement! No wrong done at all Kay!” and “So ..you are only human kay..”
Less forgiving Twitter users fumed at the journalist for her mistake.
One angered person blasted: “You are not sorry. If you were really sorry you would not have done it!”
Another enraged social media user hit out: “All those people who have had to miss out on milestone celebrations…..chucking stones and glass houses spring to mind……you going to resign i assume?”
Other added: ” @KayBurley She clearly broke Tier 2 rules, where is the £10k fine.”
