Kate Garraway is battling a tough time as her husband Derek Draper remains in hospital since contracting coronavirus in March.
And the Good Morning Britain presenter, 53, has been at her husband’s side during his health battle and has revealed that she has been playing him special songs as he continues his road to recovery.
The TV favourite shared that her artist of choice is Sir Elton John and that his music – that she often plays on her Smooth FM show – has a place in her heart.
Speaking to Woman & Home, she shared: “One of the artists that we play a lot on Smooth is Sir Elton John. I love Step Into Christmas.
“And it feels particularly special this year because he’s been so personally kind to me about the situation with Derek and we’ve been playing Elton’s music to Derek while he’s been in hospital.”
Kate has been doing a number of thoughtful things for her husband as he battles Covid-19.
In September, she expressed her heartbreak after saying that she was unable to see her husband on their wedding anniversary.
She was able to visit him the day after and on GMB she explained how she planned to make the day as special as possible.
Kate shared with co-host Ben Shephard: “I am going to see him today, I have got a card to take in to read to him.
“I’m maybe going to go through all the cards he’s written to me on our anniversary. He was a prolific card writer for birthdays and things, he would always remember.
“And when I say ‘was’, it’s not like he’s not still here -he’s still here and hopefully he’ll do it again. When you look back at the stack [of cards] it makes you think.”
“It’s what he took pride in [doing],” Ben supplied.
“Exactly,” Kate replied. “So it will be strange reading to him because it would always be ‘love you always, Kate’ kind of thing but this time I have made more of an effort.”
Derek – who shares children Darcey, 14, and 11-year-old Billy with Kate – was struck down with Covid-19 in March and was left in a coma – with Kate told on numerous occasions her husband would not make it.
She has updated fans regularly, with him having okay days and bad days in his recovery.
The virus seriously impacted his body and left him with complications he is still battling in hospital and months on and he is still unable to return home.
