Great British Bake Off winner Peter Sawkins surprised his uni flatmates with his success in the finale.
Winning the show meant the star had to keep his result a huge secret from his four flatmates at uni after filming in the summer.
Loud cheering and celebrations commenced when Peter took the Bake Off crown in the finale, which aired on Tuesday.
The Scottish baker apologised to flats below and above for the noise, although he admitted it was a shame they couldn’t have a big party because of coronavirus.
He told the Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Wednesday: “It was great fun. It was just celebrations! Lots and lots of cheering so apologies to the flats above and below. It might have been a bit loud just after 9 o’clock.
“We just watched it as we’ve been watching the whole series. It was really nice, it was quite relaxed. It was a shame that we couldn’t do a big party…
“But we had a lovely time, the four of us in the flat, nice and chilled out. I made a cake. We ate that alongside it. It was a really lovely time.”
The bakers’ complaints were at boiling point in the finale when they battled the roasting temperatures in the tent.
Peter confessed it was “stinking hot” and “not particularly pleasant” while they were baking up a storm in scorching temperatures surrounded by ovens, cameras and people.
He said: “The general rule of thumb is that whatever temperature it is outside, the tent can get 5 to 10 degrees hotter – all the ovens in there, all the cameras, all the people. It gets stinking hot, it’s not particularly pleasant in that respect.”
Despite the heat, Peter kept his cool in the finale.
His most stressful bake was unsurprisingly in the quarter final where they were tasked with making a jelly cake.
It proved to be a nightmarish task.
He added: “It was in the quarter final, it was just my bane throughout the entire process, and that was the jelly cake. I’m so proud that I managed to get a standing up jelly cake out, but that one still gives me nightmares everyone once in a while.”
Although it has only just aired, the Bake Off was filmed over the summer.
All the stars and production crew formed a bubble to allow them to continue filming the same time they do every year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
It’s no surprise the bakers have stayed in daily touch on Whatsapp.
Peter said: “We’ve got the Bake Off bubble WhatsApp group. It’s popping off every day.
“We’ve just become a wee family, we’ve got so close so fast, we’re all in together, 24 hours a day and it couldn’t be a better group to share the whole experience with.”
An exciting future lies ahead for the youngest ever winner of the Bake Off.
But first, Peter admitted he’s got to finish an assignment due and exams to study for.
