X Factor’s 2005 runner-up Andy Abraham has returned to his job as a binman in order to keep his feet on the ground during the pandemic.

The star has picked up where he left off from his pre-fame job to keep himself busy due to the lack of work available in the entertainment industry at the moment.

Andy, who was named the ‘Singing Binman’ during his stint on Simon Cowell’s talent show, was working as a binman in London before he appeared on the ITV contest.

He has recently returned to work in a bid to help the community, telling Metro: “I’m literally singing out there as I was during the X Factor show. I’m back to being the official singing binman, which is kind of cool. I’m just enjoying keeping my feet on the ground.”

The star added: “People are very, very encouraging, they’re really, really happy to see us. I’ve even had people asking me to sing! I have been singing out there and that’s been fun. It kind of makes [people] realise the voice I had back in the day and why they supported me.”

Andy was a fan-favourite on the second series of the show 15 years ago.

He was moments away from being crowned the winner until Shayne Ward swooped in for the crown.

Andy signed a deal with Sony and released four albums after the series.

His first ever album made it to second spot of the UK charts.

He performed for Nelson Mandela and even sold out the Albert Hall.

But his second album only got to number 19 and the record label quickly dropped him.

Andy was later declared bankrupt in 2012.

He has since performed in pantos and continued to work as an event singer.
