Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, has been subjected to vile online abuse since the release of the new season of The Crown on Netflix.
The 73-year-old has been targeted by fans of Princess Diana after the portrayal of her actions in the fictional royal drama.
The Crown has come under fire for muddying the waters between fiction and reality and season four of the popular Netflix show has reached the point where Prince Charles meets Lady Diana, with Camilla making an uncomfortable threesome.
The series has shown Charles (played by Josh O’Connor) and Camilla (Emerald Fennell) having an affair for the duration of his marriage to Diana but historians have pointed out that this was not the case in real life.
They have said that for around five years after Charles and Di were married in 1981, he had virtually no contact with Camilla, let alone have an affair.
The Crown’s creator Peter Morgan has defended the invention of certain scenes but this has not stopped some hitting out at the royals for their treatment of Diana, Princess of Wales, who is played by Emma Corrin.
DIana fans turned nasty on Friday when a photo of Camilla was posted to the Royal Family’s Instagram page.
The pic had more than 4,000 comments on it, with a lot taking aim at her for doing the dirty on Diana.
One said Camilla was a “horrible woman profiting off the heartbreak of another woman”.
Another hit out, writing: “You tortured Diana from the moment she was engaged to your precious Charles.”
Netflix has declined to comment on the backlash that Camilla has received since the fourth season dropped on the streaming service.
