Strictly’s Bill Bailey mourns ‘old friend’ after pet dog Banjar dies

Bill Bailey has revealed the sad news that his dog has died.

The comedian – who is currently starring on Strictly Come Dancing with professional dancer Oti Mabuse – shared on the loss on Twitter on Thursday.

Alongside a snap of the pup named Banjar Bill penned: “Today we said goodbye to our lovely rescue dog Banjar. Farewell old friend. Sleep well.”

Mourning star Bill was sent a number of kind messages on the micro-blogging site after he shared the news with his fans.

One typed: “So sorry Bill. Horribly painful – sending hugs.”

A second added: “Oh I’m so very sorry to read this. There is nothing on this earth like the love of a rescue dog. They give their all without questions & you become the centre of their universe.”

A third echoed: “Been through all that twice myself and it’s devastating. So sorry Bill but he had a happy life with you and I hope you have many happy memories.”

Bill has been impressing Strictly viewers and judges – Motsi Mabuse, Craige Revel-Horwood and Shirley Ballas – since appearing on the much-loved show and prior to the 2020 series kicking off he shared the heartbreaking reason why he agreed to take part in the show.

He explained that his late mum Madrin was a huge fan of the BBC One show before she died, as he said he hopes she’ll be watching him compete this year.

Bill said: “In these strange times we’re living through, it feels right to do something different and take on a new challenge.

“So I am delighted to be a part of this year’s unique Strictly Come Dancing.

“My late mum Madrin would have loved it – I hope she’ll be watching.”
