Keke Palmer Gets Backlash For Food Stamps Tweet And Claps Back!

The actress previously suggested that EBT cards should only be used to purchase ‘healthy items,’ and she received quite a lot of criticism over her stance. However, now, Keke Palmer is clarifying what she really meant!

It all started with a tweet she sent out earlier today that read: ‘Imagine if your EBT cards could only work on healthy items.’

Those simple words got her in hot water with some social media users who could not help but disagree.

Many were mad that the actress seemed to want to dictate what people on the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (also known as ‘food stamps’) should be able to eat and not!

After a while, Keke Palmer returned to her platform to respond to the criticism, clarifying her position.

‘To clarify, my tweet was pertaining to issues w/ healthy foods being 2 expensive and thinking it should be free for those with EBT cards. This wasn’t a suggestion for solving all low income issues. Solely a hopeful solution for those with EBT that want to run it up with meat and produce,’ she wrote.

Indeed, the star’s initial post was all about the unfair cost difference between healthy food and the generic items one can find at the grocery stores.

‘You never realize what healthy food is actually worth until you decide to eat extremely healthy and notice that everything is a million dollars!!! I see corporations know the nutritious [value] off the top. If EBT card(s) could only work on healthy items.’

After chatting with her fans about healthy diets and more, she went on to tweet at the new VP: ‘Hey @KamalaHarris. I know you just started, but me and my friends were talking about it, and we think EBT cards should swipe free on all items considered HEALTHY. Xoxo.’

But many saw it as her trying to ‘police’ what ‘poor people’ can and cannot eat, arguing that they should be allowed to eat whatever they want.

Others pointed out the reasons why healthy food is so much more expensive.

But obviously, as she would go on to point out, the actress only had the best of intentions.
