No. 10 Wisconsin will not play Saturday’s scheduled game against Purdue because of the COVID-19 outbreak in the Badgers’ program.
The school said football activities remain paused as the team grapples with 27 active cases — 15 players and 12 staff members — diagnosed since Oct. 24. Coach Paul Chryst is among those who tested positive.
Wisconsin trounced Illinois 45-7 in the Big Ten opener on Oct. 23, but the game at Nebraska last weekend was canceled.
The Big Ten has said missed games will not be rescheduled.
The Badgers are scheduled to play at No. 23 Michigan in prime time on Nov. 14.
Under Big Ten rules for the coronavirus pandemic, all players and personnel testing positive are mandated to miss 21 days and test negative for COVID-19 before returning to the team. Two of Wisconsin’s three quarterbacks tested positive last week.
