Kym Marsh bans daughter Polly, 9, from Instagram over trolling fears
Former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has taken steps to protect her nine-year-old from the negative side that comes with social media
Kym Marsh has revealed that she’s banned her nine-year-old daughter Polly from using Instagram.
The former Coronation Street actress, 44, has followed in the footsteps of Hollywood actress Nicola Kidman who forbid her children from using social media until they reach an appropriate age.
Big Little Lies star Nicole revealed that she’s put a stop to her daughters Sunday, 12, and Faith, nine, creating profiles on various sites over concerns it will harm their perception of themselves and the wider world.
Now, Kym has said that she wholeheartedly agrees with the Hollywood star’s approach and is copying her strict parenting rule.
The proud mum-of-three has shared her thoughts about the matter in her most recent OK! Magazine column.
Kym explained: “Nicole was reluctant to let her children join as she can’t easily monitor technology.
“I have to say that I agree. Instagram’s age restriction is 13 and older and I believe that’s there for a reason.”
The actress, who shares Polly with ex-husband Jamie Lomas, revealed that they sat down to discuss their daughter’s social media journey.
“Polly’s dad and I always say we don’t want her joining social media until she’s old enough – and even then, I’d want her to be private and only follow friends and family,” the former soap star explained.
“There’s so much content on the internet that children see nowadays.
“They are exposed to so much and as a parent it can feel hard to censor it all and keep them safe which can be worrying.”
Polly’s parents Kym and Jamie also welcomed baby boy Archie in February 2009 but their precious boy died tragically just moments after birth.
Little Archie had been born 21 weeks and five days early.
Kym recently shared her heartache over friends not attending the funeral because they felt they couldn’t “cope”.
She said on her new BBC show Morning Live: “I had almost got to the point where I wasn’t accepting anything yet, but equally, I found that people didn’t know what to say to me or how to talk to me, so, therefore, avoided that completely.
“Some people didn’t want to come to his funeral because they felt…they just couldn’t cope with such a small baby’s funeral.
“They felt really difficult, it was a difficult thing for them.”
